Brian and I spend a lot of time with this wonderful couple whom we love dearly, but the mister is an even pickier eater than Brian in some ways! His vegetable intake seems to consist exclusively of bell peppers and celery sticks smeared with peanut butter. Mushrooms, broccoli, and asparagus are a no go. I haven’t tried to get him to eat Orangette’s cream braised brussels sprouts yet, but if anyone could resist those decadent caramelized morsels, I’m sure it would be this friend.
When we cook for one another, we usually have a standard deal in which one couple cooks the meal and the other brings wine and dessert. Since this couple tends to make their brownies and cakes exclusively from the box, I use our dessert nights as a chance to bring out the best of my semi-homemade, easy assembly desserts that can be popped right into someone else’s oven.
Some past treats have been Monkey Muffins, which are super simple because canned biscuit dough is the main ingredient. And about a month ago I tweeted this funny picture of Brian eating s’mores.
S’mores may be the most fun to make on a stick over a campfire, but I assure you, oven s’mores are just as fun to eat! If you’ve ever made s’mores before, I’m sure you already know the “recipe,” but if you haven’t, then you should probably remedy that asap!
Oven S’mores
Graham crackers, halved
Marshmallows
Chocolate bars broken into approx 1″ x 2″ pieces
Turn oven to broil setting. Place halved graham crackers on a cookie sheet. Place one chocolate piece on each graham cracker. Put tray in oven for several minutes until chocolate is softened but retains it’s shape. Remove from oven and place one marshmallow on each chocolate-y graham. Broil until lightly browned. Remove from oven. Top with another graham cracker half. Enjoy!
